Breaktime and lunchtime and exams

At breaktime students must be aware of public exams not kick balls against the sports hall wall while we are in exam season.  For the same reason we will be stopping ball games just before 2pm each afternoon as that is when the afternoon public exams start.

Five ways to live without your phone

Was life better before smartphones? In the past, boredom often sparked reading or creativity. Now, we lose ourselves in the blinding glare of our constant portable companion.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up? The last thing you do before you go to sleep? What do you do when you find yourself in an idle moment sitting on a bus or lounging around in a waiting room?

For most of you, the answer to at least one of these questions is “check my phone”. Increasing numbers of us are distracting ourselves constantly from our thoughts and anxieties by getting lost in the digital maze.

Young people are particularly vulnerable. Researchers from King’s College London found that almost one in five teenagers aged between 16 and 18 suffers from smartphone addiction, with symptoms including difficulty concentrating and panic when separated from their devices.

Perhaps even more worryingly, those suffering from smartphone addiction are more than twice as likely to face anxiety and three times as likely to face depression than those who did not exhibit addiction.
